
Buildstart is a new scheme to stimulate the construction of more housing in the
Northern Territory.
Across Darwin and Palmerston there are more than 500 housing lots already
available, and a further 200 that will come on line before 30 June 2009 across
Frances Bay, Lyons, Rosebery, Bellamack.
There are also housing lots available in rural developments.
There are more than 180 units under construction in Darwin and proposals for
approximately 300 units before the Development Consent Authority.
In Alice Springs there are approximately 90 vacant residential blocks, with 32
of these at Larapinta. These blocks are ready for housing construction.
FUTURE LAND RELEASE
Darwin
Staged land release is occurring at Lyons.
Development of housing lots is underway at Frances Bay and Parap.
Palmerston
Four new suburbs will be developed at Palmerston - Bellamack, Johnston, Zuccoli and Mitchell - providing 3,700 new residential housing lots.
The Northern Territory Government is fast-tracking the infrastructure for these suburbs. These suburbs will provide opportunities for first home buyers and low to middle income earners with 15 per cent of all lots set aside for affordable and social housing.
Bellamack will provide 700 lots and the first lots are expected to be available mid to late 2009.
Johnston will provide around 850 lots with between 50 to 200 to be released in late 2009.
Zuccoli will produce up to 1,750 lots of new residential housing and will become one of the largest suburbs in Palmerston. The first lots are expected to go on sale in 2010.
Mitchell will be the final of the four new suburbs to be developed, producing around 400 lots likely to be available in 2012.
Alice Springs
The future development of Mt Johns Valley will provide a total of 80 lots, with 40 lots in Stage 1. The first land release is expected late next year.
Tennant Creek
Five residential lots just sold in Tennant Creek.
Katherine
The Northern Territory Government is considering further residential land release in Katherine.
